A recent acquisition to the stable, Spanish King has made an immediate impact by winning 2100m Maiden at Ipswich today.

Having been previously prepared by Ridge Wilson in northern NSW, the 4yo Palentino gelding arrived in good order and despite the three weeks between runs, lined up as one of the more fancied chances in the race.

Out of the straight the first time, Spanish King was at the back of the field and keen to go quicker then the muddling pace of the race, so as the field navigated into the back straight, jockey Samantha Collett let him slide forward and within in the matter of 100m, and with minimal effort, Spanish King was outside of the leader.

Inside of the final 1000m, the pace picked up and Spanish King was rolling along as the field stretched out.

As the field straightened for the run home, Spanish King took the lead but was quickly under pressure from Zelon, with the pair coming away inside of the last furlong to battle out the finish, in which Spanish King prevailed by a one and a quarter lengths.
