Local galloper Mantecado took out race 1 in impressive style today at the Gold Coast.

Ridden prefect by local apprentice Minehiko Shimodaira, Mantecado box seated third in running and proved too strong in the finish to win by two lengths.

He was first up over 1400m. He was placed up to 2200m last prep but his trainer Marcus Wilson admits he made the mistake trying to make him a stayer.

” I think his a better horse fresh over 1400m to 1800m, a mile will be his ideal distance.”

Congratulations to all the owners and connections involved.
